Vista - Teal Instead of White Screen

Jun 13, 2010 3:16AM PDT

OS: Windows Vista
Model: HP Pavilion Entertainment PC Pavilion dv5

Whenever the screen should be white, it is bright teal. This occurs at all times - on websites, on the desktop picture, on the start up menu, in MS Word, etc. I have tried restarting, updating Windows, running virus scans, and updating the monitor driver. Nothing has changed. Any time there is supposed to be white, it is bright teal. I have taken a few screen shots if you need them.

How do I fix this?

It most likely

It most likely is a failing of your monitor, and it will need to be replaced. But if you're using a VGA connection, feel free to try a different cable to see if that changes anything.

How old? And is it CCFL backlighting?

Pretty new....

This is a laptop and it's less than 2 years old. I don't know if its CCFL back lit -- the laptop belongs to my parents and they don't know anything about computers except how to break them -- but other than the teal, everything seems the same. The brightness is normal, there is no flickering. The rest of the screen isn't even tinted teal. The only thing that is different is that the things that were white are now bright teal / aqua -- this shows the color: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_color_tryit.asp?color=Aqua

It's really weird.

What I see from that image
Jun 13, 2010 5:04AM PDT

I see a table in which the cell backgrounds are green, but the rest of the area is white.

I can't tell from that image because doesn't look like a screen print.

There's an added difficulty with screen prints from this computer. If it is the screen that is failing, then taking a screen print and uploading it to some image hosting site will display normally. That's because the data in the screen print still thinks everything is normal.

If you had taken a photograph of the monitor screen, transferred that to a computer then uploaded that, we may see that the monitor is indeed at fault.

However, on the basis that this is an actual screen print then I would say that someone has changed Display Properties to some green setting for Desktop and Windows.
