Vista taskbar keeps splitting horizontally

by StickMaker / October 25, 2008 12:20 AM PDT

This is weird; Vista HP, my taskbar frequently splits so that part of it, horizontally, sticks to whatever window is open, and drags up and down the screen with that window. To get rid of it, I have to scroll to the bottom of the screen, as if I am pasting it back where it belongs. PLUS, the START button flashes on the bottom-left corner of almost any window that happens to be open; even though I have my task bar "hidden" until I move the cursor to the bottom of the screen. Any fix? This is on my Acer Aspire 5100 and Vista is up-to-date. I'd attach a picture here but it looks like that is not possible in this forum.

Did you happen to let Microsoft update drivers?

Is so I see things like that happen.

No, not that I'm aware of.

In reply to: drivers?

This almost, always is driver related. If not, it's failing video hardware. Not as nice a diagnosis.

So try disabling AERO (google that since it's widely documented and...

About the driver. Head to the properties of the video controller (sorry but I must write in generic terms) and see if you have a Rollback Driver button. Try that.

I am not quite sure if this system every worked proper. Please tell if it did that since the machine was setup.

Thanks for that, R. Proffitt; I did that; rolled back the driver and that did not help so I installed a new driver online but that did not fix it either. Guess I'll just live with it. One more reason to hate Vista, seems to me, and one reason not to buy Acer again. Never had all these problems with my Toshiba laptop running XP.

Flawless (well except for Vista's flaw) and it all works great. I'm unsure why you don't restore from the restore DVD to see if the hardware failed.

And there is no maker immune to hardware failures. Some forget that.

Thanks, Bob. Nothing works to fix that problem so I submitted a ticket for tech support at AMD/ATI.
