Vista SP2 Home Premium - windows mail - recovered folders

Aug 2, 2010 6:56PM PDT

Sirs,
Every time I open my Emails a category title RECOVERED FOLDERS appears at the end of my Storage folders. None of them contain any Emails but it multiplies until the list goes to the bottom of the page. I am able to delete them but as yet cannot prevent them coming back.
Can anyone please suggest a fix?

My thanks to all who have suggested cures for this problem. I have tried all of them and none of them gives a permanent fix, the 'recovered folders' folder just returns again and again. It even appears in Windows Live mail as imported folders, again none of them contain any messages.
It would appear that I am not the only one with this problem, how do I get Microsoft technicians to help?

Look at other bugs like this.

It's non fatal and Microsoft tends to leave non fatal bugs unresolved. I know some folk have a hard time with that but if you've been on the Windows ride for long you learn what gets their attention. Here's the order. 1. Money. If the bug can affect the bottom line. 2. Security. If the bug can be published as an easy exploit. 3. Embarrassment. Need I explain? 4. Things that crash. 5. Things that don't work. and way down the list is "Cosmetic issues."

A stray folder would be cosmetic.

Cheers Bob,
That was what I was expecting. This problem goes back a few years that I know of, so there is obviously no easy fix or someone would have made it available by now.
My son suggests that I use what most of his generation use & that is one of the Web based Email programs. Apparently if I link it to my normal ISP's Email address it will function without introducing unwanted folders etc and has loads more free space.
Time will tell!

Why just ship because of a stray folder?

My choice would be to ignore it. If it's a directory folder I might set it to HIDDEN so it does not show up.

Hi Bob,
If I ignore it then it will eventually fill my allocated space on my Email program. It does not appear to be a Directory folder so I cannot hide it.
The same has happened on the Windows Live Email under a different folder as previously mention.
So far Google mail(Gmail) has not introduced this phantom file.

Hello Bob,
Can you please explain how I hide the folder, no matter what I do to it, it reappears next time I open the Mail program.
Does anyone know how I contact an M S-M P V. I have found old correspondence on this subject from a 'Steve' but cannot find out how to contact him further.
Any advice much appreciaterd.
