Vista restores deleted items on my desk top on reboot

Dec 5, 2009 12:42AM PST

OK, I am going nuts trying to figure out how to fix this.
I'm not sure how this started, I'm assume that my 5 year old might have had something to do with it.
I use my desktop as a staging area for some things I do then move the files to a permanent folder when I am done.
The issue I am having is that when I delete items from my desktop they reapper after I rebbot the computer
My fix for now is to not reboot. Even if I empty the recycle folder they still reappear

Look over at the Default User folder and it's Desktop folder (sorry but I'll not go over how to use Explorer to do this) but those items might be in the All Users Desktop folder.

Also, share the item's name because some are removed another way.

That wasn't it.
It restores different types of files and folders. From a .msi file to a word document to a folder that has pictures in it. It's at the point that I don't save anything to my desktop because I can't delete it permanently.

desk top gets restore on reboot
Feb 24, 2010 12:51PM PST

Finally figured it out. Some how a copy of my desktop was being saved to my external drive and it was restoring it every time I rebooted or changed users. I never set it to do this. The only thing I can think of is my five year old fools with the computer playing games and such. He must have accidentally set it.
It only took 3 or 4 months to do a 1 minute fix!!
