What is "nbr"?

And since it fails on the OEM CDs, let's hear more. We know these restores will fail if the machine has issues. I think you said the webcam is "caca" but you didn't reveal how all these problems caused an OS reload.

For now, try some Linux install like Ubuntu.

WIN VISTA RE-INSTALL BUG
May 17, 2012 3:34AM PDT

YES , i have tried safe mode w cmd prompt. didn't help. by the way, "nbr" means norton boot recovery. that scan came up clean. no matter what i try, system hangs up running "alauncherx" when trying to install cyberlink on board webcam. cyberlink says it's gateway's problem and gateway say's it is cyberlink,s problem. frustrating...

Did you try a clean drive?

Slip in a new blank HDD (use the tool you understand such as DBAN or Killdisk) and then boot the recovery media.

Again, the details are so slim that you may have to move to a repair counter soon.
