Vista Premium Freezes on Login Screen

Dec 8, 2009 8:34AM PST

Can anyone please help? When I power it up, it's ok until the log in screen for the user. That blue screen with the user's icon and the request for a password. I try to type the password and the whole thing freezes. The text blinker disappears. I can move the mouse, but I cant click on anything. I cant click on the shutdown or the log off on the bottom right. I cant access the options on the bottom left. Crtl Alt Del doesnt work and I cant shut it down. The only way is to use the manual power button hold for 5 secs or so. Anyone know what is wrong?

I can. I researched online that there are several common factors that can contribute to this sort or problem. Most commonly is that there is a start up program that is not functioning or problematic. Or a bad sector or something else. I just hope that it is a program so i can just delete the program and everything else will be fine. It it is a bad boot sector or bad startup. I'm in a lot of hot water. Any ideas how to identify the problem?
