Vista or XP for games?

I'm in the process of purchasing a computer for my niece. It's going to be a decent bit of hardware (AMD Phenom 9600, 512MB video card, 4GB RAM, 500Gb hard drive) and I was wondering whether or not is was worthwhile going to Vista over XP. My gut feeling is to go with XP. Vista will work, but it seems like a ***** for drivers etc. How does Vista go with the latest games like Crysis?
