Vista laptop will not boot past welcome screen

Aug 23, 2010 6:50AM PDT

A friend brought me a Lenovo T61 laptop rinning Vista Home that is having problems. When powered on, it boots up to the Welcome screen. We select their profile, it gets to a screen that is just a light blue with the cursor arrow but goes no further. It will stay that way for as long as you are willing to wait. This occurs when trying to come up in Safe mode as well. Any suggestions would be welcome.

if u can manage to order for a recovery disc from toshiba, i guess it can solve the problem after it is formatted or as you wait, u can go to the task manager and start a process "explorer" which is located in the windows folder in drive "C"

Well, if I could boot the machine...

...and get to task manager I might also have other options, but I can't.

I realize that I could format and start over but I was hoping that I might have some less intrusive options to try first.

but ordering recovery discs is better coz those discs are bootable so u can format without entering your windows...

I also had already pulled the drive and ran chkdsk on it...
