Are you doing a clean install with your upgrade Vista? If not, you will need to for the best results.
Here's how:
1. Boot from Upgrade Vista DVD.
2. Do not enter your product key number.
3. Uncheck Automatically activate windows when I'm online.
4. Choose the Custom (Advanced) install option instead of Upgrade.
5. Format your hard drive.
6. Tell it to not to check for updates.
7. Finish installing Upgrade Vista.
8. When this first install is done, run the installation again from within the first one. (Start Menu > Computer > DVD drive > Install Vista)
9. This time do the Upgrade option and enter your Product Key number in the installation steps.
10. When done installing, go to C:\Windows.Old and delete the Windows.old folder. (It's the copy of the first install.)
NOTE: Make sure you have Show Hidden files and folders checked in Folder Options. (Control Panel or Tools menu in Explorer)
11. Run Disk Cleanup
12. Check Files discarded by Windows update (It'll be about 1.51 GB) in Disk Cleanup.
13. Click OK to delete it.
For the past week I`ve tried everything to install Vista Premium on my computer. I am upgrading from Xp media center 2005. At the 27% mark of the install when windows reboots I get the good ol blue screen of death which was supposed to have died with Win 98. My system should be capable.
