1.) You need to take ownership of the files/folders on the Windows Vista hard drive in order to gain access to them.
2.) The hard drive may be failing or improperly connected, or there may be a case of file corruption on the Windows Vista hard drive, preventing it from being accessed.
3.) Double-check the default download location set by the browser and try refreshing the fo0lder after the download completes. There are times it may not be displayed automatically.

In the early days of Vista I had absolutely no problems until SP1 came on the scene. My computer refuses to install the program and ever since, I've started having problem to the point about 3 weeks ago when the computer refused to even boot. So I installed an old hard drive containing XP Pro (which I now wish I never left).
The only problem with this is that I have a few files on the Vista drive that I would really like to recover the data from. So, today I put the Vista drive back in the computer, put the master Vista disk in to boot from and away we went on a "slow boat to China". I thought the computer locked up every so often in the DVD boot process. Finally it did come up, I chose to "repair" my disk and after several minutes it reported that the errors had been corrected, but it still won't boot.
So, I reinstalled my XP hard drive with the Vista drive as the D drive. XP boots up right away and it show the D drive in My Computer, but when I click on it, the folders refuse to open. All I want to do is grab a few key data files and then be done with Vista forever.
Since I can't read the D drive, I got a crazy idea about getting some shareware data restore program. I googles it and several came up although the "free" strangely disappears. Anyway, I tried to down load a couple of programs on to my desktop and they appear to download fine, but when I go to the download file, the folder is empty! I even tried to download a "sure" thing from Yahoo to test the download folder and I couldn't find that file either.
While all this is going on, I have the Vista still active as D. I assume if I disconnect it, I will be able to download normally.
Anyone got any idea as to how I can access my Vista drive or why I can't "see" the files I download?
