Research DBAN and disconnect any drive you don't want erased then boot DBAN and select a quick erase. This will give it a fresh empty drive to install to.

I have an a1750y series HP Deskstop 3 GIG computer. During the last while it has been acting a little 'off.' So I decided to just reboot the system this weekend. I had made copies of all of info that was on there Saturday night. Before I could start the System Recovery, there was a succession of power surges due to the weather here in NC. The surges were off and on for about 5 minutes and then it stopped, waited about 15 to 20 minutes and started again, then stopped for about 30 minutes and did it several times again before finally stopping for good. I wasn't thinking at the start of them, but eventually I unplugged my power cord from the pc. After it was done, I plugged it back up and the system was fine. So Sunday I decided to do the System Recovery. I started about 2 p.m. Waiting on it to finish after the inclusion of the last disk, I fell asleep. When I awoke, the screen was black and I thought the process had finished and restarted the pc. I was wrong. It was stuck in System Recovery. Apparently, the surges had done some damage after all. It has had this note for over the past 24 hours. 'DO NOT turn off your pc during this one time setup process. Your PC restarts several times during this setup process. Messages may pop up onto your screen Ignore these messages until you are prompted to Restart or Shutdown your PC.'
I have tried going into Safe Mode and that screen is still there. I tried unplugging it. I tried reinstalling the recovery disks. Nothing works. I want to know if there is anything that I haven't thought of that will stop this and fix this. And yes I did have my pc connected to a surge protector...what good it did do. I got a feeling that it is something simple.
THe weird thing was that I have done the system recovery in the past and this is the first time that it asked for the supplemental disk.
If someone has a suggestion, let me know. Thank you for your kindness in advance.
