... I already checked.
My problem is that some time ago Vista stopped starting in normal mode (it freezes after loading a few programs). Unfortunately I cannot say exactly when it stopped booting correctly, it was very rare in the beginning and I didn't pay too much attention.
It starts OK in safe mode and diagnostic mode, so I tried disabling programs and services one by one. I almost thought I had found the culprit because it started OK after I removed some items, and then it started playing up again. Occasionally it also starts OK in normal mode, with all items. In other words, it shows a weird behaviour at startup and I have been unable to find out what it is because whether it loads all items or only some of them, sometimes it boots and sometimes it doesn't. I also repaired Windows and soon after the new Windows updates it played up again.
Even when it boots OK, whenever I change something, a new update or a new program, any change to the registry, it won't boot again.
I really don't know what to do. I have read somewhere sometimes Vista freezes at startup when there are some memory problems, but I have 3 GB of memory, which is not really stellar but not bad either...
Now I have reversed the updates and it started, but Vista is offering them again and I am afraid of installing them. Also, the HP QuickTouch buttons won't work either, but last time I repaired them it didn't boot after the repair, so I think I won't touch them, but I find it annoying...
Any suggestions? Thanks!
