Vista compatible printers

Jun 22, 2006 10:45PM PDT

Good Morning all,
Does anyone know which printers/brands are compatible with Vista? I have a Lexmark 2330 series and Vista recognizes it as a fax and scanner, but not a printer. Any drivers or work-arounds for this? Thanks, John Smith

5610 Print problem
Jan 4, 2009 9:45AM PST

Just wait till you try to cancel a print job. It will tell you that it is deleteing a print job and block any other print request (3 days so far). this is most definitely not the first time that this has happened. I usually takes having to pull the power cable and/or the printer cable 5 or 6 times to clear the print job. Sometimes even this does not work. I've had to reinstall my printer 3 times in order to clear this up. It gets old pretty quick.

Lexmark Printers an MS Vista
May 31, 2007 4:38AM PDT

Forget it! I tried for 3 months to get a Driver for my Lexmark X6170 all-in-one driver installed, via India. After hours and hours on the phone and numerous attempts, I bought a new printer that works with Vista, XP and 98. I hate Vista and its designer/manufacturer.

Vista Compatible
Jun 5, 2007 11:33AM PDT

I have a Lexmark printer, and when I first purchased my laptop with Vista, I had to wait a month for Lexmark to make my printer drivers available. I haven't had any problem since. The older the printer model is, the harder it will be to upgrade the drivers. With all the abilities that is offered with Vista, I'm planning on purchasing a wireless printer.

Fooled me once....never again
Oct 9, 2008 9:22AM PDT

In January when I bought a new machine, I told them if I couldn't use my Lexmark 6170 with Vista it was a deal breaker. They looked it up, said 'no problem' and I bought it. Didn't work, but I could see it listed as a compatible printer. Then they said to wait a few weeks, that it's probably just late. Great sales people for dumb customers like me. If you haven't bought Vista and you have spent 00's on a Lexmark...don't. Rip off artists, I think.

WIRELESS All in 1 COMPATIBILITY with Vista?
Mar 30, 2009 1:38AM PDT

Hello,

So I've tried the HP 6280 all in 1 series...same as others...reinstalled software 15+ times until I got sick of it! Went out and purchased a brand new Epson Artisan 800, which is a beautiful photo printer and all in one. It said RIGHT ON THE BOX that it's Vista compatible but....low and behold, I spent most of this weekend unistalling, reinstalling, re-setting my router, computer, firewall and other settings.

I called OD as it's been 16 days (they only allow 14)...I think the manager felt so bad for me that she's going to let me exchange it...PLEASE forward ANY suggestions for a wireless all in 1 that WILL WORK WITH VISTA!!! Thanks!

Sherry

HP installation problems come standard
Mar 30, 2009 1:25PM PDT

As I installed (and when I reinstalled after uninstalling!!!!) the driver for the officejet to replace the 6310xi that suddenly stopped working...argh...each time I get to a "fatal error" message just about at 94 or 96% installed.
As a result, although for some reason I'm able to print with a direct USB connection, the idea of this purchase was to get a wireless all-in-one for our Qwest router network. BestBuy's Geek desk tried to be helpful...they've even shared secrets that the Squad members have learned in their adventures in the great unknown of homes and offices.
Ultimately, however, since it's apparent the network is fnctioning well for internet connection, the final suggestion has been to get a Geek Squad appointment. So, in addition to $180 with tax for the MFC, I'm gonna need to 'virtually' double the investment?
I'll try another installation using the ethernet option. I suppose before returning the printer I'll even consider if there's a possibility that I might want to quit fighting while I'm ahead.
But I'm starting to wonder if a $300 investment is needed, maybe I'll run with either a basic laser in addition or go for a more expensive all-in-one. In any case, it doesn't seem that any of the manufacturers give a damn about their supplied programing and loss of goodwill.
I sympathize and empathize with everyone else out there having trouble with software installation virtual incompatibility with Vista!

Olivetti Simple_Way Printer Scanner Copier
Jul 11, 2007 8:58AM PDT

Yeah the same happened to me to but all I can do is copy, can't print and can't scan. Did you download the Vista driver from Olivetti? Nothing seems to work for me on Vista Home Premium and nearly downgraded to XP. Any ideas?

Jan 18, 2008 12:43AM PST

I have just heard that the Olivetti website has gone down for good, receivership was mentioned. Do have the downloaded 32bit Vista driver for the anyway printer and could you possibly email it to me? Just my luck to have bought the printer with no vista drvers.

Thanks

Lexmark not working with vista
Aug 14, 2007 11:43AM PDT

Go to www.lexmark.com and look in the new drivers for models that are compatible with Vista. There are several of the older models not having upgrades. Look for tech help and look for your model and upgrade online.

Canon's Vista Driver Crashed Vista
May 14, 2008 6:24AM PDT

This is such a frustrating issue. If I'd known I was going to have to buy a new printer I would have gotten one of the older machines some stores are still selling that have XP.
We have a pretty new Canon MP600. Vista didn't recognize it. Canon had a special driver, but that driver crashed Vista. Blue Screen of Death. Actually had to reload Vista. Now am stuck getting another printer.

Epson Stylus Photo R380 doesn't work with vista either
Oct 3, 2007 6:23AM PDT

Even though Microsoft says the R380 software is compatible, it isn't. Epson's website says you can download a driver, but that driver doesn't have a vista signature. Let me save you the time and trouble of calling them, spending two hours on the phone call you pay for, and getting "help" that knows less than you do... Don't buy this printer until you're sure it comes with the vista driver disk! And then pray you can get some decent support from epson if you need it.

HP Claimed Printer compatibility a fantasy
Feb 5, 2008 4:28AM PST

I also have a relatively new HP all in one Office Jet; on their website HP claims that existing drivers work with Vista.... NOT
After hours with tech's reboots and USB driver issues HP decided to 1. inform me that my relatively new equipment is obsolete
2. That the problem is not printer driver Vista incompatibility issues but laptop BIOS and computer update issues.

They do not wish to address at all thier own software shortcomings, or the fact that thier site states and I quote " The driver solution for this product is included in your Windows Vista operating system and is already on your computer. There is no need to download anything . Follow the steps below to quickly and easily get your product working with Windows Vista."

HAH Like hell it does !! Talk about fraudulent claims.

HP Claimed compatibility
Dec 21, 2008 12:51AM PST

Vista, just like XP has become a problem with printers it seems. There has to be a service pack or patch for compatibility. I asked HP and Dell and they told me no. Although my printer is older, it is perfect for my simple needs, but guess just like all computers and associated equipment, we have to update like they do. Thanks and Merry Christmas, Bob

HP all in one 1210 psc printer
Dec 20, 2008 11:54PM PST

I downloaded the driver detective that I found online, and my printer still won't work. I got a new Dell Inspiron 530 computer about 4 months ago, it has Windows Vista basic home edition. My old computer had Windows XP. My printer was working with the new computer up until about 7 or 8 weeks ago when it suddenly stopped. I have been on the phone with Dell and HP and performed an astronomical amount of functions to no avail. Neither has a patch to enable the printer to work again. The printer will not print documents sent from the computer and I cannot afford a new printer right now. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you and Merry Christmas, Bob

my HP all in one

Just trying to save money. The printer worked fine for a long time, but now for some reason just stopped. I imagine it was a microsoft update that stopped it from running. Thanks for the response, Merry Christmas

The test is stilll
Dec 21, 2008 12:49AM PST

To see if self test and printing on other machines works or not. I have yet to find a Microsoft update to stop printers from working. There are some that accept DRIVERS from Microsoft but that is something you would know if you did as it's never an automatic install.

Just asking.
Dec 21, 2008 12:04AM PST

Does this printer work on another PC? That's an easy test, isn't it?

- If no, it's gone south and - like it or not - you'll have to buy a new one.
- If yes, something happened with your new Dell. I assume Dell will have you do a system recovery (back to the factory conditions) before they will admit it's a hardware issue (with the port you connect to) and do a free warranty repair.

Thanks Kees, we did try that at my daughters house. She has an older Dell with XP and my printer worked fine. I guess it's time for a new printer....but with all the Vista compatibility problems what do I buy? Merry Christmas, Bob

If it works ...
Dec 21, 2008 2:47AM PST

NOW with her, and it USED to work with your Vista machine, and it doesn't work with your Vista machine NOW, something is wrong with that. To start with, try your daughters regular printer with you.

Compatible Printer
Jan 1, 2009 9:26AM PST

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro L7580 All-in-One and it works fine.

Regarding your printer problem, have you tried going in your printer options and adding it manually with the proper driver? I use driver 990c from HP.
