Vista compatible printers

Jun 22, 2006 10:45PM PDT

Good Morning all,
Does anyone know which printers/brands are compatible with Vista? I have a Lexmark 2330 series and Vista recognizes it as a fax and scanner, but not a printer. Any drivers or work-arounds for this? Thanks, John Smith

My HP works with Vista
Jun 4, 2007 12:04PM PDT

I have an HP PSC 1410 All-In-One. When I first got my new computer, and tried to install my printer with the disk it came with, it didn't work because Vista said it wasn't compatible. Then, I did as someone on here suggested and just hooked it up to my computer and turned it on. Vista automatically configured it. It works just fine.

HP 8250
Mar 8, 2007 12:08AM PST

Which version of Vista do you have?
I have Windows Home premium and also have the HP 8250 printer.
I don't have any trouble at all with the printer as all the drivers and software are there.
The only thing different is I did a upgrade from windows XP so it is possible that my XP drivers and software work with Vista.
I talked to a HP tech. about a different issue and he said all the drivers and software for the 8250 printer are on the Vista Disk?

HP Photosmart C4240 printer won't install
Oct 6, 2007 2:00AM PDT

I recently got a new HP Photosmart C4240 all-in-one printer. Try as I might, I could not get it to install on my Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook with Vista Home Premium on it. It is supposed to be compatible with Vista. The printer worked on a computer using XP, so I think it might be an issue with my computer. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

The compatibility situation seems to get much more complicated when print servers are involved.

No problems
Apr 4, 2007 11:24PM PDT

with our Lexmark X2470. I loaded the Lexmark software CD and everything worked fine with Vista. Just to be on the safe side, I went to the Lexmark website and found what they claimed was a Vista driver for this printer and I downloaded the thing. Seemed no different. As I had only paid $35 for this printer if it didn't work, it wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it works fine for me. Bill

Having the same problem without resolution

I have downloaded four separate files from Lexmark for my z645 printer. They don't really seem to have any answers and that little Vista Compatible sticker they put on their printer boxes is bogus.

Lexmark Z645 with Vista works...
Dec 20, 2007 2:32AM PST

I had the same problem with the Lexmark Z645 and Vista. After a lot of effort I gave up and emailed Lexmark.

Their response was surprisingly helpful:

First download and run "CleanupUtility.exe" from: ftp://ftp.lexmark.com/driver/inkjet_drivers/Cleanup/

Then unplug the printer's USB cable and restart your PC.

Then download and run the printer's drivers/install program for Vista, from: :548ShockedShocked&emeaframe=&fileID=10374&searchLang=en&searchLang=en&os_group=Windows%20Vista">http://downloads.lexmark.com:/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1Shocked:548ShockedShocked&emeaframe=&fileID=10374&searchLang=en&searchLang=en&os_group=Windows%20Vista

Only plug the USB cable back in when the drivers/install program tells you to.

After install, I think it asks for another reboot.
Then all should work fine.

Happy

I had same problem. Lexmark tech support gave fix. Still have other problem with Lexmark x8350, but multi page printing works. 1.Click "Start" 2. click "Control Panel" 3. (New window opens)Under heading of Hardware and Sound, click "Printer" 4. (New window)RIGHT Click on image of printer "Lexmark Zxxx Series" 5. Click "Properties" at bottom of list. 6.(New window)Click "Advanced" box near top in middle. Then click "Print Processor" near bottom. 7. (New window)Two boxes appear...left box headed "Print processor:", click on line "Lexmark Zxxx Series Print Processor" then in the right box headed "Default data type:" click on "NT EMP 1.008", then click "OK".
8. You have returned to prior window (7). Click "Apply" at bottom right and then click "OK". 9. You return to prior window (4) and your finished...X out...give multi page print a try.

Lexmark Compatibility Website and Downloads
Sep 16, 2007 8:37AM PDT

In response to my original remark. The Lexmark website with Drivers were totally useless. Download, remove, download, remove, try this, try that. I ultimately had to give up and buy a new printer. And, yes, as another individual pointed out, you HAVE TO look at the printer box BEFORE you buy it to make sure it is compatible with Vista. I lost a tremendous amount of money on the Lexmark printer that had to be sold to an XP user.

Lexmark, x3580 USB not recognised
Oct 7, 2008 6:24PM PDT

I have a Dell Inspriron 530 running Vista and bought a Lexmark x3580 and have had nothing but trouble. I ran through all the fixs here and cannot make it work. At the 'connect USB cable' stage I get 'USB not recognised'. I've tried two different cables and the prompt still comes up. If it's any help there is no virtual port listed. I'm about to take it back to the shop a second time unless there is a genius solution (or an obvious one I've missed) Thanks

Hope it helps. They answered my questions when I still didn't understand some instructions. Good luck

Printer That Works With Vista!
May 4, 2007 6:27PM PDT

Today I purchased an HP 5610 All-IN-ONE (including fax)from Office Depot. I got it installed in a snap with NO PROBLEMS!!! At Office Depot all the Vista compatible printers are clearly listed with signs advertising their compatibility. Their salesman was very helpful in showing me which ones were compatible and their respective features. I picked up the HP for less than $100 bucks. I had previously posted about the Lexmark printer that was not Vista compatible with my new laptop. It was free... it was overpriced. I had hassles galore with Lexmark.

Hope that helps!

All newer HP Printers.
Aug 22, 2008 4:11AM PDT

Work great with Vista, unless you want to print with the duel sided printing attachment installed.
It's been 16 months and HP doesn't have a patch for the problem.
My son-in-law bought a new HP system Computer, printer and the two sided attachment and it wouldn't work right out of the box. He called HP and they told him there was nothing pending in R&D to fix the problem. So HP is selling new things they know won't work. He took it all back and got a Gateway Desktop computer and Kodak printer and everything works fine.
HP is a great printer with Vista as long as you are not doing two sided printing.
