Vista compatible printers

Jun 22, 2006 10:45PM PDT

Good Morning all,
Does anyone know which printers/brands are compatible with Vista? I have a Lexmark 2330 series and Vista recognizes it as a fax and scanner, but not a printer. Any drivers or work-arounds for this? Thanks, John Smith

We owned a Hp photo printer and they let me know through e-mail that they wont make a driver available for that printer. We bought a new brother MFC 665 CW multifunction printer copy scan fax and it works like a charm on vista.
Hope this helps

re which printers that are compatible with Windows Vista
Dec 16, 2007 1:59PM PST

Thanks a lot!I looked at the Brother color printers today and wondered if they would work.

I purchased a 2400 Lexmark printer that has not worked satisfactorily with the drivers for Microsoft Windows Vista, from Microsoft's download web site. Microsoft is still posting that Lexmark printers work on Windows Vista. Mine has not worked to my satisfaction.

printer for vista

Purchased Dell Inspiron 1501 w/Vista. Wasn't sure what printer was compatible. Already had the Canon BJC 80 that I used with my older laptop. I didn't have a parallel cord with usb connection so I purchased one on eBay for $5 or $6. Turned on laptop, connected to the internet, plugged in usb to laptop and parallel to printer. Vista recognized it and downloaded the drivers automatically. Check your printer's website to see if the drivers for your model is listed to support Vista. Mine was listed with Canon. Hope this helps you out

Re: printer for vista computer

Sassy,

Steps to take:
1. Find out if your computer has a parallel port. If so, you can use both a printer with a parallel connection and a printer with a USB connection. Some modern PC's don't have a parallel port anymore, and quite a lot of printers only have USB.
2. Think about what kind of printer you would like: inkjet or laser black and white or laser with colors. Photo's only? Or primarily non-photo's?
3. Assuming that Vista is out for more than half a year now, practically all new printers you can buy should have Vista drivers. So if you've selected one (big names are Canon, HP, Lexmark, Epson, but there are others) all you've got to do is ask in the shop if they are sure it has a Vista driver. All they've got to do answer it is look what the box says about it, so that isn't too difficult a question.
If you decide to buy it in an Internet shop, the product specification should mention it. To doublecheck, you can have a look at the manufacturers site (like www.canon.com) if they offer a download for a Vista driver on there support pages. If you buy PC and printer at the same time (say, at Dell) they're sure to work together, of course.

Hope this helps.

Vista and Lexmark
Dec 28, 2007 3:07AM PST

Many of us bought our Vista-problematic printers WITH new computers/laptops in a BUNDLED PACKAGE; Lexmark being notoriously the WORST. And yes... my brand new Lexmark said it was Vista-compatible right on the box. It's a racket. Besides the lack of truth in advertising and the poor, poor customer service most of us Lexmark suckers got, the point is: installing a printer shouldn't be a full-time job! It's one of those tasks meant for the average computer user... NOT a software engineer or an expert geek.

I wish it were that easy.
Aug 21, 2008 3:23AM PDT

If you've been following this board, you know that simply reading the box to see if a printer is Vista compatible is NOT the answer. Many, in fact it seems, most printers with the Vista symbol are NOT compatible with Vista, nor are the printer manufacturer's downloads. Don't give advice when you don't know what you're talking about.

I got a new computer (Gateway) 2 weeks ago and bought a new Lexmark all in one x5400 series at the same time. It installed and works great. I haven't used it much but I put it through it's paces to check it out and everything seems fine.

Hi, how did you made your hp deskjet 3745 work for Vista? Did it required you to install a driver that's Vista compatible? 'Coz I have a driver but it I guess its designed just for XP.

Lexmark printers with vista
Jan 22, 2009 9:44AM PST

I just spent a week trying to get my lexmark printer (X5470) to work with vista. I finally got it to work by doing the following.
Make sure all firewalls, spyware, and antivirus shields are off when you download. Go to lexmark and download the Vista x64 driver. For some reason whenever I downloaded the Vista driver it came up as the xp driver. The installation then comes on and tells you to follow the instructions. This worked for me after a week of trying the other one. Try this if you are having a hard time. It finally worked!

I finally gave up on my other printer. I could download the driver too for that one, however it would not install the drivers! I bought a newer lexmark. It seemed as something blocked the installation of this one too! The 'please wait' while instaling was on the screen for awhile, going nowhere. I decided to see if i could 'unblock' things...... i disabled the firewall momentarily. Immediately the printer installed correctly!!! I find this very odd.

Lexmark Printers
Feb 5, 2007 1:01AM PST

I bought a new Gateway Pc this past weekend. And it had Windows Vista premium. WOW I thought I was getting the latest and greatest software out. What I got was a big mess and a headache. NO LEXMARK PRINTERS will work with Vista. And I have 2 of them. That was told to me today by Simon @ Lexmark. That is not what I wanted to hear. They have had about 2 years to get their act togather.
I also have a few HP printers and they won't work with Vista either. Even with their "link fro vista drivers" LOL

I have an HP Deskjet printer, 3845 which is just a plain Jane inkjet printer and after Vista installed the printer worked fine. The drivers were found by Vista during install. At the time of install all peripherals were connected and recognised without a hitch.
Apparently this problem is with Lexmark sitting on their duffs, not with Vista.

use the WinXP drivers
Feb 15, 2007 10:30PM PST

Most WinXP drivers for printers will work. You may have to manually force the driver, but you'll find that they work 90% of the time. I've configured about 8 printers since RC1 and haven't had a printer fail to work yet...

some others do not. My Epson Stylus C84 is supposed to be in the Vista Package but does not work properly in order to view ink supply. Sad

Such a disappointment and neither HP nor Epson seem to offer a correction and little concern for users.

Clarification....
Feb 15, 2007 11:11PM PST

My situation is with a new HP computer which had Vista installed. The Epson driver that is included is broken by the Vista Firewall... at least that is the message from Epson and they say the vendor has to correct the problem. HP says they have no fix. Since it is OEM I have no recourse to Microsoft Vista for remedy. SadSad

Just wanted to clarify from where I am coming.

Finally Got a Balky Epson Driver to Work
Dec 20, 2007 4:09PM PST

Greetings,
I hope this helps someone...I was beating my head on the desk as my relatively new Epson C84 refused to "hook up" with my new Vista desktop. Already traumatized by the sudden death of my very reliable XP desktop, this was almost too much. When loading the driver, the computer kept giving me "cannot find" path or file errors. Finally, just for fun, I plugged the printer directly into the computer (instead of the powered hub I've used for years) and it WORKED! What the hell!

Vista Compatible Lexmark Printers
May 6, 2007 1:08PM PDT

There are many Lexmark printers that work just fine with Vista. Some still do not have drivers ready, it depends on the model of printer you have.

My own X6170 Model has only been working for a few days [very well I might add] as the driver was just made available.

Go to lexmark.com to find your model.

Are Lexmark all-in-one printers compatible with Vista?
Oct 6, 2007 3:23AM PDT

Purchased HP 9335 with Vista OS in June 2007. My Lexmark x125 printer was not supported by Lexmark with Vista. Ordered x5470 from Lexmark on-line store in late June 2007. After almost 3 months, over 40 e-mails and probably 10-12 phone calls, Lexmark Support sent a replacement printer the x8350. Neither printer works correctly. It takes four plus (4+) minutes to print one page on both printers (2 pages takes 6 min). After the x8350 failed,I assumed it had something to do with OS. Call and paid for HP Tech Support. Tech logged onto my HP and conducted several tests. After 40+ minutes, the Rep said the Lexmark software was not compatible with Vista. My last e-mail to Lexmark Support(Sept.30) hasn't been answered. Can anyone help??????

Vista compatible printers
Feb 16, 2007 1:28PM PST

I have a brother 210c that I used with xp.When I got vista i first tried to use the install disk that came with the printer but vista quickly said it was not compatable. At that point I was set to call the printer manufactuer to see if they had updated their drivers for vista. Before calling i went ahead and pluged the printer up to my pc and the vista imediatly began configuring the printer,it works with all the features scan, fax, print.
