Vista Codecs

ok i downloaded vista codecs package and now when i try to open my video folder it tells me that windows explorer had stopped working and its going to restart. it happenes every time, so i tried to uninstall the program and then it gave me that error 1402 and now im stuck with a program that is seriously messing with my computer. all i want is that damn COM Surrogate message to go away and now i cant even watch my videos. also i have videos that for somereason wont load and im guess its cause of the codecs but how do i fix those also. SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!
