The IE6 installer should check the version of Windows before proceeding and thus refuse to proceed. It's designed to do this since it integrates itself with the OS, and Microsoft chose not to support 'downgrading' IE since it leaves you at risk. Thus, you're stuck with IE7, and IE8 down the road. (It's already in development.)
As to the glitches, I haven't encountered them but they are certainly not rare, when dealing with any version of IE in fact. Unfortunately IEFix has not been updated for IE7 compatibility and there's no easy way of repairing IE7 on Vista. You could try SFC (type SFC /scannow, with the space, into the Run dialog box and have your DVD ready), but aside from that you'll have to rely on another browser for a while.

I think the question has been asked before, but I can't find it now.
Does Vista have to have IE7 or can it be removed and replaced with IE6?
I have had several problems with IE7 like it will close and give an error messege that says "explorer has stopped working and will close" I hadn't seen that for a couple weeks now it's back and worse than before.
Also I am getting page can't be displayed a lot and from several different sites. I can click the back arrow twice and it will then display the page.
I thought at first it was a DNS issue, but I have changed the DNS 3 times and still have the same problem.
I had IE6 on XP for 5 years and it never failed once so I really don't know if it is the Vista or the IE7 or the combination of both.
Has anyone else run into these problems with IE7 and Vista.
Thanks
Wayne
