Hi I have a gateway Computer it is a media center model number GM5442 Serial Number CCW73 710 06206. I have a Seagate Baracuda 500 gig hard drive. It is using raid. When I go into the device manager of the control panel and I click on my hard drive and hit the polocies tab where it says Write caching and safe removal well those two options are greyed out. I do not mind that. That is not the problem. The problem is Enable write caching on the disk for increased performance. And the second option for advanced performance. they are there and they are not greyed out however when I go to put check in just one or both and then exit out and go back into it to see if the settings saved and the check marks are still there they are not. So I'm wondering if there is a tweak for this something that can make the settings stay so that when I go back into it they are both checked? Also In my bios I disabled using my hard drive as raid and went to using my hard drive as IDE now the check marks are both there on the write caching when I go into the hard drive properties. Only if I use IDE.I wanted to have them work with raid, because I hear that raid is faster. Can anyone tell me what raid is and why it is faster. Is it possible for ide to be faster on my system?

Thanks Srteve
