Resolved Question

Visioneer PaperMax MaxMate Software

Jun 19, 2017 10:07AM PDT

I was a proud and enthusiastic early adopter of the Visioneer PaperMax document scanner way back in the early 1990s, which ran a software that included the term MaxMate, creating image files with a filename extension of ".max" I have an archive of .max image files that I have not been able to open since Windows 2000, and I can't find a working product under Windows for more than 10 years that can view these files. Anyone with any advice, please?

Their viewer worked fine under Windows 2000, but...

Their viewer worked fine under Windows 2000, but I no longer have access to any device with that operating system, nor do I have the install discs for their latest release from maybe 2005 to try to load it onto Windows 10. They seem not to support any of their older products anymore -- or maybe are just out of business?

The viewer is a download

And doesn't require install discs from what I can tell. Do you have a MAX file I can test the downloaded viewer on?

I have found a couple of alleged download links

But my Norton freaks out that the sites are known to be dangerous. I have plenty of sample MAX files, but I do not know how to attach one here, nor do I know how to share a Dropbox folder with you unless I have a working email address. I do appreciate your help!

Click on my name.

Then email me there. I don't post my email in the clear so I use the spam proof method. The app I'll use is the one from the link I supplied which is from the scanner maker.

Just for those that are reading this.

Sonof emailed me a few MAX files and I opened them with the downloaded app from my first reply.

Also I used a Print To PDF app from NINITE.COM to create PDFs from the MAX file so in the future the viewer would not be needed.

try something

Change the file ending to something more used like jpg, tiff, img, gif, etc and see if maybe it's not a proprietary format, just using a different file ending.

I had done that years ago to no avail

But good thinking! Thanks.
