Viruses and....MySpace!

by Sunsetlover / November 19, 2006 6:07 AM PST

This might be an unusual topic, but for the second time in 2 weeks I got a virus while on myspace.com, and I was wondering if any other members here had a similar experience recently. Note that this was while I was in my messages, not on people's profiles.

Both were trojans, both detected by AVG and healed, after immediately rebooting to safe mode. The first one was last Sunday, Nov 12, the second today Sunday Nov 19 (Trojan Horse PSW.Generic2.RFG in Windows\system32\wndiacvm.dll.

I sent them an email and they replied that "they are working on it"(!)...is this an indirect admittance, if I ever saw one!

So MySpace has gone from a nice and friendly website, to an annoying one (with all the errors on the site and ads), to a dangerous one?!

I don't want to make a big deal about this, but no one expects to get any viruses from sites like myspace (parent: NewsCorp!)

Btw, does anyone think it was a coincidence both happened on a Sunday morning? the busiest time for myspace?

Thank you....I just checked it out, very interesting! So I am definitely not alone!

What is the responsibility of the site itself, myspace, in cases like that I wonder....yes the ads are coming over a network, but....

Another Trojan from Myspace!
by Sunsetlover / November 25, 2006 11:33 PM PST

Hello Marianna,

Myspace had another gift for us, for Thanksgiving this time! It gave us "thanks" by spreading a Trojan (Trojan horse Generic2.GGN) on Thanksgiving day. So that makes it 3 Trojans in 3 weeks!

In your opinion, what is the culpability of Myspace here? I am personally outraged that such a popular site, run by a parent company with VERY deep pockets, doesn't have any controls in place. I mean, do you expect to get a virus from Yahoo for example?!

Thank you.

It took a few days for them to fix that too.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
