Question

virus webcakes BHO

by paralegal54 / July 19, 2013 11:40 PM PDT

I have a Compaq Presario vista os. Running Malwarebytes, Spybot and McAfee I found A vitus or adwate called Webcakes BHO. I can't remove it. I went to remove programs as suggested by geek squad attempted to follow the instructions but not possible. Its as though the vista instructions were made up. Not one step was possible. Now the are 6 PUPS called Mediaads? Again I have no idea how or where they came from nor can I find them in registry programs. I even did a sys restore to time prior and itsstill there. I have Ask toolbar but never ever requested it been changed added or even downloaded. How go I get rid of it . It seems to effect youtube videos and cuts audio off in safe mode when iuse ccleaner
Any suggestions? Hours spent with no results not worse still slows down loading and bearshare toolbar. With skype plug-in crashed messages. More of what I did nt install.

Frankly I find torrent and bearshare users to catch the most interesting computer infections. I see other discussions about removal but if the owner is a torrent/bearshare user, it rarely is gone for long.

Yes it says it is but have uninstalled it. As you said it goes away briefly and returns. Oddly it really seems hide yet I haven't determined under what name. Its try exhausting and a learning experience. If you get close it will shut down the brower chrome, IE and has ruined Mozilla. I have uninstalled mozilla and reinstalled not sucessfully. Webcakes is new but I don't use torrents although varying opinions from techs yes terrible get rid of it and no they're of no consequence? Im so frustrated I may be rambling. Outsmarted by a virus??? Aggggg

And I didn't want to reload I'd try GRIF'S advice next:

Once all that come up clean then off to run ADWCLEANER (from bleepcomputer.com)
And then when that's clean I take a close look at my HIJACKTHIS LOG and learn what each item is.

If that does not clear it up then I read the welcome message at bleepingcomputer.com and sign up and follow their advice.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
