Resolved Question

Virus picked up by spybot but can't fix - questions please?

Jan 17, 2015 2:30AM PST

Acer Aspire 5742

I use Kaspersky Pure 3.0. It's automatically updated. I recently noticed some issues with double line "links" on web sites that are pop ups with unrelated content. I did a system restore to go back a few weeks earlier prior to when I thought it started. That fixed that problem but things still weren't right.

I've run a full virus scan and nothing comes up on Kaspersky, anti-spyware and glary Pro utilities. I downloaded spybot and it found multiple minimal issues as well as trojan zl and malware. When I went to fix the issues I got the not responding faded screen and the laptop froze. Before I restarted the laptop I jotted down the location (or as much as was on the line). I then restarted it, went back to spybot and checked the log which showed the full registry entries where the viruses were located. Luckily I took a screen shot because I can't access it now. The log said after each entry nothing done.
I pressed to rescan. The permission box appeared 3 or more times before it opened making me think it was now corrupted. The scan finally started but found only 4 minor issues. I checked regedit and didn't see the registry entries (unless I missed them somehow). Things are still running poorly and spybot still isn't working correctly. I can write out the registry key entries if that can tell anyone anything. Kaspersky continues to find nada.

I tried uninstalling spybot but there are boxes to tick relating to immunizations and quarantine first and I didn't want to create even more issues by opening those up.

I'm a home user. I'm smart and have done some intricate stuff with instructions but I need the list of what to do and where to find it if necessary. Thanks so much

Please stop with that Glary stuff.

It's in the forums so I'll move forward to Grif's advice. All the tools are free and well tested. If the virus can't be removed, well, there is such a thing as "false positives" and Spybot is rarely noted anymore. Glary is frankly, if it damages the OS, then that's a common problem and why no one here (mods at least) don't mention it.
