Virus or computer glitch?

May 15, 2005 1:33PM PDT

I have a dell 8250 running Widows XP. It is set up so I have a "desktop", my husband has his own and then my daughter has her own. Recently, (in the 4-5 months) I have been unable to download anything. Whenever I click on a "download" button, I am switched to a Smart Biz.finder web page! If I log onto my husband's desktop or my daughter's, I have no problems downloading.
The 2nd problem is that about 50% of the time, when I open certain webpages, the text is HUGE! So I might see two words per line...which makes it very difficult to read!
And then just a few days ago, all my email has converted to italic text...very very annoying!
I have scanned for viruses and found nothing that would seem to cause this. I suspect some spyware for the inability to download but can'r figure out what is causing this.
Hope someone can help...
Teresa

Can the other users download?

If so, download, install, update and run AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, CWshredder and Spyware Blaster. If you can't download under any user, see if you can on another computer. Burn the programs to a disk then install, update, run each program and delete anything they find.

Have you checked to see if you are logging in under a limited account. If so change you account to Computer Administrator.

Please post the solution if you are able to find one.
I have the same problem, sometimes after reboot it will go away but then reappear.
