Virus in my Dell laptop

Jul 14, 2009 9:12PM PDT

Iam having a Dell laptop inspiron series purchased in 2005. (I dont remember the exact serial no. of this make of laptop). OS is Windows XP. Since few months I am facing a problem. My registry editing and task manager has been disabled. whenever i press ctrl+alt+del, a message appears "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator'. Also 'registry editing has been disabled by administrator' appears when i type 'regedit' in 'Run' window. I searched for a solution to this in google and i tried all of them. However, nothing worked and the problem still exists. unfortunately I dont have a antivirus software installed on my laptop. I have downloaded latest version of Avast antivirus from internet and iam not able to install the same on my laptop. Even though I dont have a internet connection in my laptop, I think the virus might have come from pendrive.
I welcome suggestions on this issue and would be grateful if the issue is solved.

See if you can install and run ...

that anti-virus in Safe Mode.

Otherwise, your best guess would be to go back to factory settings and start all over.

VIRUS CLEAN
Jun 6, 2012 6:01AM PDT

Hi ,

My name is Dishant and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
Go to a website which is www.download.com and download super anti spyware and malware bytes if your computer is booting up in normal mode fine otherwise got to safe mode with networking and install both software's. To logon to the safe mode follow the steps below:
As soon as you switch on your computer keep tapping the F8 key.
It would take you to a page which says advanced boot options.
Choose safe mode with networking (only if the computer is working is not working in normal mode)
After you install the super anti spyware run a quick scan and remove all the threats detected and after that run the malware bytes and removed the threats this should take care of the problem.
In case it does not a OSRI (operating system re - installation) needs to be done on the system.

Thanks,
Dell - Dishant C
