Virus Help

by superclydes / May 17, 2009 5:59 AM PDT

I am currently running XP Professional. I am having problems with IE 8. My son inadvertantly downloaded a virus or should I say a ton of them for me.

I am on a wireless network and get connected without any problems. I try to connect to my home page, CNN, and it cannot connect. I will connect with any website that has a password on the shortcut I created in my favorites, ie school or bank. I have not entered anything on these pages as I found it strange that they were the only ones I could connect to. I try to diagnose the problem and it says that my firewall settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS (443), and FTP port (21) need to be checked. I haven't found where to do that, but if I can connect to other websites, my firewall settings are ok.

I have the latest updates as of yesterday for Windows and anti-virus programs. I have actually downloaded a new version of IE 8 and installed it. I am running Symantec Anti-Virus, which was going nuts with virus alerts. I have run Malwaretytes' anti-malware and Super anti-spyware deep scans and deleted anything they have come up with. I have also ran the Symantec deep scan as well and deleted anything they have found.

Any help?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
