Virus Found..please help

Mar 3, 2004 7:14AM PST

Hi. Found a virus using Housecall. Troj-RVP.A C:\Restore\Archive\FS760.cab Deleted the virus but would like to know what it was. When using the program Webshots the error Lexplore has caused an error on GDI. exe. Also found at the bottom of my screen (taskbar) shows the word Start in small letters.. then the desktop, internet icon etc. to be in Larger icons. Went to start, settings and still could not get it back to the original sizes for the desktop etc. icons.....Any suggestions. Thank you.

Although you have not indicated your operating system I am able to conclude from the description of where the Trojan was located, that you are using either WinME or WinXP.

please follow the steps listed below:

1. go to

http://www.moosoft.com and download the 30 day shareware Trojan eliminator called 'The Cleaner'.

2. disable your System Restore, which is done through the properties tab of 'My Computer' and scan using 'The Cleaner'.

3. enable your System Restore and re-boot.

post back if the problem persisits.

Thank you for you reply. Operating System is WinME. I just wondered what the trojan was. I also want to know how to get my taskbar back to normal. I can't seem to find any information about troj-rvp.a. Any suggestions.

Click on the link below to read about it. You'll notice that there are some registry entries that need to be checked, as well as file names.:

TROJ_RVP.A

We could sure use more information about your computer, such as the operating system, processor speed, version of Internet Explorer, and the specific thing you're doing in "Webshots" when you have the problem. And because "Webshots" has had a spyware history, make sure to download, install, update and run the spyware removal tools below:

Ad-Aware 6 Spyware Removal Tool\

?Spybot Search & Destroy? Spyware Removal Tool[/b

The error in Webshots is almost surely: "Iexplore.exe (with an I not an L) has caused an error in GDI.exe" or maybe even "GDI.exe has caused an error in Iexplore.exe". Either way, because of the problem with your onscreen display, plus this error, it appears like you need to reinstall the video driver for your computer. (GDI is the "Graphics Device Interface" component.)Lacking any further information from you, a good place to start would be to visit the manufacturer's website and install an updated video driver.

Hope this helps.

Operating system WinME, 800 MHZ pent 3 Ibm net vista. Internet Explorer. 6.0..Downloading lots of pictures onto Webshots. This error message has occurred more that once. Usually it freezes up my computer. I have mostly all the spyware removal tools suggested by this forum. Virus is gone, now wondering about the error message. Where is the Windows Task Manager located. Thanks again.

In Windows ME, the "Task Manager" is basically the "Close Programs" box which can be reached by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

In regards to the error, as I mentioned earlier...The error in Webshots is almost surely: "Iexplore.exe (with an I not an L) has caused an error in GDI.exe" or maybe even "GDI.exe has caused an error in Iexplore.exe". Either way, because of the problem with your onscreen display, plus this error, it appears like you need to reinstall the video driver for your computer.

GDI.exe is the "Graphics Device Interface" component for your computer.

In addition, it's possible that you have your screen resolution and color settings too high. RIGHT click on a blank area of the desktop, choose "Properties", then select the "Settings" tab. Set the color to nothing higher than "High Color 16 bit" and move the "Desktop Area/Screen resolution" slider to nothing higher than 1024 X 768, or maybe lower. Still, make sure to install the most recent video driver for your computer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you again. I downloaded Intel 82810 graphic technology. Not sure but think it is the most recent video driver for my computer. IBM Net Vista 2276 operating system WinME. Settings at High Color (16bit) and Screen 800 x 600 pixels. (L) lexplore.exe not sure thought it was a L. Any suggestions appreciated thank you.

Mommapez, Is The Problem Still Occurring?
Mar 5, 2004 12:09AM PST

If so, then there are a couple more things that I would do. In addition, you said you "downloaded" the video driver. Did you also install it? If not, please do.

First, change the "Graphics Acceleration" like this:

(I'm not on a WinME computer, but I believe this is th correct path.) RIGHT click on "My Computer", choose "Properties". When that loads, click on the "Performance" tab, then click on the "Graphics" button. Move the "Hardware Acceleration" slider one notch below "Full". Click on OK, then OK.

Next, reduce the number of background programs that are running on the computer by clicking on the link below and following the instructions in the post:

Hope this helps.
