The attack is not against the browser anyway. It's against the OS by expoiting the brower's vulnerabilities. Most who write viruses which attack MS products are attacking the company. If Apple were to replace the MS platforms and be viewed with the same villianous reputation as virus producers see it now, I suspect there would be more attacks on MACs. It's a matter of how many soldiers are in the army. IMO, too many blame MS and not the attackers. It's just easier that way. It's, (again, my opinion) a reflection on where our legal system has led us. We are at fault if we are attacked and it's our responsibility to defend ourselves and not the fault of our attackers.
