Virtumundo / Winfixer Virus

Dec 28, 2005 1:18AM PST

I have recently found that I have Virtumondo Virus. I have tried everything to cure myself, and have failed. I have a 6 mo. old dell inspirion 9300 (beefed up, 7200rpm HD, 1 Gig ddr ram, Etc.) I do not have any p2p programs, etc. Along with annoying popups no matter if I am on the Internet or opening my pics folder. Now everytime I run spy sweeper it says virt. mem. is low. My pc is running sluggish, and some programs take awhile to open, esp. outlook. I've tried vondufix, ad-aware, spysweeper, registry mech., mcaffee, Highjackthis, and tried to find and remove mannually. I will attach the hjt log file. If any one could offer me assistance in this matter, I would be forever greatful!! -Dave-

I was unaware of that. sorry I'm new to being a member here. I just thought the more info the better. So you suggest posting the hjt log on that other site. or wait first to see if any other suggest come up first? I ran some program that was to remove automaticaly but the log from it said it could not clean or remove, however the file it attempted to remove, I'm guessing is the "mutated file" which is this file -C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebcy.dll- . Once again I appologize for posting the log. and thanks for your help. -Dave-

one of the HJT expert forums in that thread. We don't have HJT experts here even though some here can read them partially. You are better off posting it for someone to read that deals with them all day long. It's not your fault about posting the log here. That thread was back on the 7th page. We've been so busy here and elsewhere that we forgot to bump it to the front. Sorry about that. Please be patient with whoever you bring the log to, they are extremely busy and please only post it in ONE of the forums. Good luck to you and let us know in this same thread how you made out.

If you do not know how to do this procedure, it would be best to follow Roddy's suggestion for posting your log.
There are files not showing in HJT. Those have to be deleted as well. You may need another tool or two to completely clean this infection.

In addition, whoever helps you can advise on the correct way to remove and update your Java. Happy

Yes, There Is : The 1.5.0. Unfortunately Some Systems.....
Jan 1, 2006 2:57PM PST

seem to run into conflicts & crashes with it. Likely older set ups & less than perfectly patched. These people find no such problem w/ the 1.4.2 versions at latest patch level. Since you were showing 1.4.2 version, I thought latest there would suit. Last thing you would need is unexplained crashes added to the mix. Happy
