vinyl to cd question

by tlmaric / May 21, 2006 12:11 PM PDT

I am in the process of learning how to convert my vinyl records to cd and am running into a problem with static distortion, that generates everytime I turn the turntable on. It gets picked up with the rest of the music and I have not been able to filter it completely. The turntable is a Vestax Handy Trax and it is plugged directly to my computer (Intel Celeron 2.53GHz / Windows XP) less than two feet away. There is no ground wire on the turntable. What do I need to do or obtain, to get rid of the static?

If not, then that maybe the problem.

Try getting a cd burner for your home stereo instead, it would integrate better with your turntable and may give you a little bit more flexibility from a recording perspective, depending on the model.

Going from a stereo to a pc can be a pain in the rear simply because you're going from analog into a pure digital stream and that can have some issues.
