enderwins,
I recommend a good starting point is sitting back three-times the screen size from corner to corner.
Most people would ask, Hey HDTech, why wouldn't want the biggest screen, and the simple explanation is eye movement. If you have to constantly move your eyes left and right to encompass the entire picture, it's going to give you eye fatigue, and take away some of the experience of watching a movie. When you can relax your eyes and see the whole picture, that's where most people note a better experience overall. Gameplay, of course, is interactive and provides a different experience. In this case, you'll want to measure it based on movies.
This, of course, varies by person, but it's generally a good starting point.
I'd recommend that you go into the store and stand about where you're going to be sitting and test both sizes. Relax your eyes while watching the unit, and see if you have to move your eyes. If not, that's probably the size for you, based on where you're standing.
I'm guessing, and this is completely up to you, but based on your 7-8 foot distance, that the 46" would meet the needs of heavy TV and movies watchers from that distance. That said, if you invite people over for football and want the big screen for the bragging rights, we offer a solution there too. ![]()
Let me know if this was helpful.

Price aside i'm having a hard time deciding what to get between these 2 tele's - 46a650 or 52a650. I sit about 7" - 8" from the screen and when I play video games...I get real close probably 5" to 6".
What would you recommend I get? My max viewing distance I pushed the tv against the wall would be 9"
thanks
