Question

Viera TV no longer plays streamed MP3

by barnek02 / July 27, 2013 7:42 PM PDT

When my PC was Windows 7, my Viera TV (TX-L37D25B) quite happily saw and played MP3 and video files hosted on the PC. Connection is via Powerline and good throughput.

Since 'upgrading' to Windows 8, the TV can still see these same files but refuses to play them. The MP3s show the cover artwork etc and length of track but pressing 'play' does nothing and the TV remains on 00:00. Nothing has changed at the TV end but somehow the hosting via Win8 has upset the TV. Videos which used to play before are now an unknown format, as well.

Does anyone have any ideas? There is nothing to change at the TV end, and the files are OK (and used to play - and still do on the PC) so what can be changed on the PC to make this work like it should?

As with the earlier Windows 7, I'm using straightforward Windows Media Player 12. I did not have the need previously for anything else as it all worked pretty well.

It was 32-bit Win7 though, and now I'm using 64-bit Win8...........

That only helped a little.

As we know 8 removed a lot of legacy items, what 7 did is not a sure thing. To wit, I'd look at other media sharing apps if Windows 8 WMP doesn't work.
