Viera TC-P60UT50 Grain Issues

I just bought a Panasonic Viera, 60", TC-P60UT50, plasma TV. It's replacing a 42" Samsung LCD in a fairly dark room. The grain is bad. Although it's not noticeable when the images are closeups, long range shots seem almost not to be HD! For example, I was watching a football game yesterday. Closeups of the players on the sideline looked sharp but the image of the line of scrimmage right before the snap was very average. It almost seems like I can see the square pixels of the image. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Is this just what I have to expect from a larger TV?
