Videotape to DVD conversion

Mar 19, 2005 4:56AM PST

Having difficulty burning DVD from videotape on my
sony multimedia computer using "Click to DVD" software.
After running my videotape player output to the
inputs on the front of my computer and starting
"Click to DVD", I am told that the system is already in use. Indeed my cable box is attached so I can record TV,(works great), but I am not currently recording anything. Sony isn't much help in telling me how to reconfigure to record from these inputs.
Any help?

A system with a tuner normally looks for VCRs to come

through the tuner.

What computer is it? What are the 'inputs in front'? What device are you selecting as the one to capture from?

Videotape to DVD

Thanks for your reply. My computer is a Sont Vaio RA820G
and the "inputs in front" are the three prong (video and
right and left audio) imputs, that I have connected to
the same outputs on the back of my VCR. The Sony "Click to DVD" software gives one the option of recording from these "analog" inputs. However when I try I get the error
message:
"Cannot capture from the analog device because an error has occured, the TV tuner may be in use by another program. Either wait until TV recording is finished or exit the TV recording program, then start recording DVD"
After posting my original question I found an almost identical posting from NewtoDVD. He hasn't found the answer yet.
Any ideas?

Sony does not show RA820G as one of their models,

so it's hard to query their support database.

The only things I can suggest are:

1. Look for a selection of hardware to be captured. It seems that you've got at least two hardware devices; the analogue source and the tuner. Perhaps the tuner has something like V1 or V2 as options in addition to your normal channels? If not, there are two seperate devices, and there is a selection ability somewhere.

2. Try to find the tuner software in task manager and shut it down.

A suggestion.

Don't use the audio video ouput from the vcr; instead..use the antenna (coax) output from the vcr and connect it to the antenna input of the tuner. A little bit more work but it should work. Good luck.

Art: Thanks for your tip. I have been able to covert a videotape to a DVD by using your suggestion. I plugged the coax cable coming from my VCR into the input that normally has the cable from my cable box. The software thinks its
recording a TV show, but it works! I can then burn my
"TV show" onto a DVD.
