Once overwritten it's gone for good.

Thank you R. Proffitt

Thank you for your time. I am not a computer expert and I feel stupid asking this question but please be patient with me "if the size of the file {2.1 GB} appears the same... does that mean that the data still there and it can be retrieved?". I and my husband are willing to pay whatever it cost for a software that can bring our video back. All we need is guidance.

Again thank you.

Let's say the file was deleted, recovered?
Jul 30, 2017 7:11AM PDT

You will find the recovery software can get the file back by reassembling the sectors it once used but if those sectors were used (written over) then the file is now corrupt and for all intentions gone.

No, it doesn't mean the data is there, just that the file recovery software could put together from the sectors that were used. Does not mean the data is good.

I know folk that blow up over this and this is where folk learn to make copies. At 2.1GB that's half a video DVD and in bulk about 25 cents or less each.

Promise this will be my last question

Thank you R. Proffitt for your patience.
1. We copied the external hard drive to another one just in case.
2. We formatted the original external hard drive.
3. With last ditch effort we ran dataus again.
4. Like snow in summer or rain in harvest... we were able to retrieve 7 segments that were playable on VLC though not the entire wedding but at least we have some of it.

My question is "what is the best software that can add the 7 segments together in one?
Window movie maker wouldn't do it!!!

Thanks again and God Bless.
