Video to DVD

Aug 27, 2005 9:03AM PDT

I want to make my home video tapes into my home DVD?s. Is there special software I need to capture the video onto my hard drive? I am running XP, P4 3 gig processor, 1 gig of memory. I have a Radeon X800 Pro for my video card and have plenty of space on my hard drives.

If your video tapes were taken with a digital video camera that has a firewire connection, and you computer has a firewire connection; then all you need is some software.

Such as:

If your video tapes are not digital, you will need a video-in card for your computer or a device that can convert the video to digital, such as the Plextor PCV PX-TV402U or the PX-M402U:

It comes with the necessary software.

Note: USB 2 is required for this device.

Is one of these products better than the other? My video is not digital and I am not planning on using the device to capture anything from the tv.

Vhs to pc :

1: Pci = cheap (wintv 2000 xp not bad)
Note : agp slot shares resources with pci slot next to it , then each set of slots in pairs from that point on .

If you have 1 agp , 3 pci motherboard (pci modem installed in 2nd or 3rd pci slot) , then you cannot choose internal device .

You cannot put a card in each slot , it dosent work this way .

Xp + usb2 , numerous devices , but some are not plug and play safe , always read the power consumption required by device . If 0.5amp , either device has own power supply or usb2 powered hub needs to be installed between usb 2 capture device and pc so as not to place drain on usb power from motherboard .

Usb2 device will give exceptional quality (avermedia usb2 external box is near dvd quality) .

Note : capture device install

Install software first , shut down pc , turn pc off at power point as well , install hardware .

If usb2 device has own power , connect and pc will ask for drivers if needed , your ready to go .

If usb2 powered hub involved , install hub , do not install usb2 capture device yet , boot up pc , install powered hub first , shutdown pc , now connect up usb2 device to hub , turn pc on , if device drivers required , now install them and you ready to go .

Also enquire if device is macro free , should you want to backup vhs you own ... something people dont ask .
