Video Software

I just bought a new ccamera, a panasonic pv-gs300 It is a mini-dv camera.It comes with motion dv studio software. When I unload video to my computer it is 14 gb for about 1 hour. It seems like I'm missing something.Is there something in this software that should compress the video or do I need to invest in a new video compressing program.
