Video Scalers and DSS

May 26, 2004 6:52AM PDT

I am considering purchasing a video scaler like that of the DVDO Iplus HD. What I want to know is will it improve my picture on my Mitsubishi HD ready 55809 TV? I am mainly concerned with standard 480i pictures from Dish Network. Currently sports look fuzzy and not detailed. Can a good video scaler improve this picture or not. I would like to know before I shell out $1000 or more.

iScan experience

I have a Mitsu 65" HD set I just purchased. I also wanted to improve the quality of the 480i broadcasts I received from Direct TV so I ordered an iScan HD+ from DVDO to the tune of $1500. I thought it did a nice job of upscaling the picture on DVD's to near HD quality. However, I was not impressed with the upscaling of anything else I received from Direct TV. Needless to say I returned the upscaler to DVDO.

I ordered a Sony DVD player (DVP NS975V) for $299 that has an HDMI connection and upscales to 1080i to improve my DVD quality and I guess I'll have to wait until more stations start broadcasting in HD to get improvement in TV broascasts.
