Video recorded on DVD-R cannot be edited on a computer?

Aug 2, 2007 2:23AM PDT

I have just been looking through the CNET Buyers Guide for camcorders and under the formats secion it states:

Video recorded on DVD-R cannot be edited on a computer

Can someone please explain this in newbie terms?

Also what about the Hard Drive systems - is it easy to transfer video onto a PC and then do editing?

Thanks

"Video recorded on DVD-R cannot be edited on a computer" (add) without some difficulty. If you peruse this forum you find some successes but a lot of grief.

As to the hard disk models, similar issues abound. The biggest is the "ENCODING" of the video content. Unless the maker supplies a "CODEC" then editing or TRANSCODING (see google.com) has been difficult for some owners.

And about ease of transfer. Yes, it's easy. but this says nothing about if the content is usable in (some hundred) video editing programs.

what about noise?
Aug 2, 2007 4:59AM PDT

I have seen reviews that indicate that Canon's suffer from noise being heard during playback of the recorded video on a TV / PC and info on this?

What about Panasonics?

Cheers
