Video problem on startup

Nov 30, 2009 7:14AM PST

I have an Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop, 1200 Mh Pent III running XP Professional service pak 3.

A few weeks back, when the computer booted, it started showing the Win Proffesional splash screen in a very high resolution, about half of the total screen.
After XP loads, the screen resolution is OK and the desktop displays correct at 1024 X 768.

I've went thru the setup on boot, updated to latest BIOS and video drivers, but it still boots at the high resolution.

Any ideas as to why?

Thanks...

Any Pentium 3 that is still working this good is best left as-is and just close your eyes during startup.

You're probably right.

However, it's built like a tank and performs as a 1200HZ PIII would be expected to and probably has less than 100 hours of operation on it.

I just can't force myself to give it up.

Versus age. What you don't want to know is that parts degrade with time. Sadly I don't call this giving up as the unit performs after it boots so fixing it could cause some other failure that would matter.

But it's your machine so go right ahead.
