Which version of WMP are you using? Is the computer still working fine except the WMP issue? If so, try using a different media player such as the free one at the link below:
Please note that a DVD decoder is not installed by default on all versions of WMP.. Have you checked to make sure you've got one?
The video adapter warning is asking you to troubleshoot the video driver, etc.. Try updating the video driver to the newest for you device.

I just installed a invidia 8800 GT graphics card on my dell dimension E521 computer with windows XP professional service pack 2 everything was working fine until I tried playing a DVD movie in windows media player. It booted me out to a stop error screen telling me to try changing video adapter and it had these reference codes down below.

I have played PC games on this new card with cinema running smoothly in the game, but DVD movies cause my computer to crash. Please help
