This one is common to new Windows installs.

Straight off the Microsoft Windows install, there is no Flash or other players. Nothing wrong about that (some debate if installing windows should be this way!)

I use VLC Player for my video playback (only get this from the source!) And for web pages try Chrome to avoid the Flash pains.

If you correctly installed a non-N version of Windows (the N versions have no mediaplayer) it should play common types of video's or audio file, but not all.

So some possibilities are:
- Windows wasn't correctly installed
- it was an N-version of Windows
- it was an illegal version of Windows (some people download that and exptect it to run as the original)
- it was an uncommon type of file, not supported by Windows Media Player
- you don't know how to play a file in Windows Media Player
- you tried to play a Flash or Silverlight file; those are common but need a browser add-on that you didn't yet install

Now it's up to you to find out if it's one these six possible issues or another one.

you provided absolutely no information to provide real help, just guesses. What is your computer model? if from a major manufacturer you need to go to their website and download their video drivers since you just installed windows. you may also need to download flash or shockwave and make sure the browser plugin is installed. What browser? ie, opera, firefox, chrome or what? did you try another browser? this is after all the browser forum. What operating system? What type of video or multimedia files? files you downloaded? streaming? dvds? what media player are you using?s how are you trying to open the files? in windows explorer? in the media player? from a website?

Go to chrome://plugins and check "Always Allowed" under the Flash plugin
If you have more than one Flash plugin installed, please disable one version by going to chrome://plugins, click on "Details" in the upper right corner, and "disable" under one of the two Flash plugins
Load the content in Incognito mode to see if there is any improvement
If your issue is on YouTube only, try the HTML5 player:

If issues persist, let us know the following information:Your Chrome Version:Your Flash Version:Your operating system:When you first noticed the issues:Areas affected - Flash video content, YouTube Flash content, all Flash content:Your symptoms?
