Question

Video lag

Feb 20, 2015 9:13AM PST

On a *brand* new HP laptop (pavilion). I'm getting laggy choppy/somewhat blurry video playback with *some* online videos.
Youtube seems to be clean & smooth, but had the trouble with an Amazon.com videos & a video file in Dropbox.

Any ideas where the problem may lie? Thanks!

Two of us are actually using the same router *and* I noticed that the Amazon video was in HD. When we turned *off* HD, it was fine.
But this laptop should still be able to handle it, right? It is because 2 computers are using the router?

try just one computer

there are lots of variables when it comes to streaming and mostly it has to do with traffic at the source, traffic between you and the source, and local traffic. generally speaking, it is usually not the computer that is having the problem. Your pavilion should handle the video as long as it has the proper bandwidth. I have never been impress with amazon hd streaming. I too usually had to turn hd off while no problems running it on netflix. Do you have cable or dsl? you running wireless or wire? if wireless try wire and see if it is any better. You can also try changing the channels on the router. what router do you have?

Hmmm

We're on wireless. We *could* plug in directly, but then we'd have to leave the convenience of the room.

Cable or dsl- uhhh I'm actually not sure. We have Fios.

The router is one provided by Verizon. (MI42WR)

still plug in for testing

I know absolutely nothing about fios but since it is wireless, you should still plug in just to see if it is faster. If it is, then there could be something interfering with the signal between it and your computer locations.
