Video Editing Software with the best AUDIO capabilities?

Apr 12, 2012 11:06PM PDT

Hi all,

This question is addressed to any video and/or audio pros or semi-pros who have used many different kinds of video and audio software for productions.

My predicament is that I would like to buy for myself a capable Win7 pro 64 program, that doesn't break the bank. I have recent experience with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, but only at a client site, when I work on their productions. I like it, for the most part, and it does have the capability to use VST and/or DirectX audio plugins. But it is expensive, and frankly I cannot afford it for myself.

Sony Vegas is decent, but not crazy about their interface. And it is also pricey (better than CS4 or CS5, but still expensive). And as soon as I get down into the range of things like Power Director 10 or others, it seems I lose the ability to use VST/DX plugins for the audio side. And this is crucial for me, as I have a lot of experience using programs like Cubase/Nuendo/Sonar/Reaper for pro audio applications.

So the question comes down to this: What video editing program that costs less than 150.00 or so has the capability to use VST or DirectX audio plugins?

Any chance to move to Cinelerra? I see it's free, has Live CD versions and does HD everything.

thanks for suggestion

Yeah, but that's for Linux, and I don't see anywhere it supports VST or DX plugins for audio.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I am trying to sift through this video editing software comparison on wiki here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_editing_software

And I'd really like to stick with Win7 pro 64. As usual, unless you get into higher end, pricier stuff, audio is totally bare bones for most consumer video editing products. Angry

Typical example: you do a quick video interview with audio from the camera mic, and so in post you want to process the audio with the usual goodies. How many videos get ruined cause of bad, or inconsistent audio? Just wish I didn't have to split off the audio, export it, process it and then re-import and time align again. *sigh* At least in PPCS4 you get basic effects processing- and access to whatever you have in VST/DX plugins... Well, I guess I just have to save up, and find someone willing to sell me their used CS4 after they upgrade to CS5.5. I dunno. Any other suggestions?

None here. Why?

I start with no less than 2 audio captures. One is the camcorder and the other is some thing like the Sany ICR-XPS01M. I am guessing that new to the field folk may have to learn why we do this.

If I was serious I would add at least 3 or more mics.
