video edit software that directly accepts canon .mod files?

Oct 17, 2010 2:09AM PDT

We have a Canon fs200 camcorder. we have used the software it comes with to transfer the video from the camcorder, via a usb cable (during which the camcorder must be plugged into an power outlet), to the computer in some format that we can then use with windows movie maker and then burn to disc with dvd maker. the whole process takes a lot of time and makes my brain hurt. Is there any software I could buy that would allow me to simply take the sd card out of the camcorder, stick it in my computer, import to the editing program and finish from there? If there is not any one software that could handle it all, is there at least a less painful way to get my video to the computer and then onto DVD? We don't necessarily want or need to do anything fancy with the editing although if it was easier and less time consuming we may get motivated to try more in the future. For now what is most important is just taking out unwanted footage and then getting the good stuff burned to dvd. Oh, our computer is a dell inspiron 1525, intel core2duo t5450 1.67GHz, 2G ram, running Vista. Thanks in advance for your help.

sorry im so incompetent but....

i read the discussion you linked and i hate to say it but i don't understand what i'm supposed to learn from it. i saw one comment (#3) that mentioned sdcopy. the rest of the discussion was talking about simply changing the file type which some said worked perfectly and others who suggested just using the pixela software. I have spent some time searching for answers on this before i asked the question here and i found these and other suggestions. when we first bought the camera, about a year ago, i believe i tried to use sdcopy and renaming the file type and neither worked, or else i did them wrong. i guess i was hoping that there would either be a software out now that would do it easily and smoothly for dummies like me, or someone would give me specific detailed instructions on the whole process with my camcorder, sd cards, computer, and editing software. I'm sorry it's been so long since my original communication. If you have the patience to explain it in more detail to a dummy, i would greatly appreciate it.

I never found a beginner's tutorial for SDCOPY. I limit my replies to about 3 paragraphs and no tutorials. Try this on google -> SDCOPY TUTORIAL. That might help.
