video distorion/speed loss

Hello everyone it,s 5:58 here in jersey sunday morn ive been sitting here on and off since 12:00 noon sat. my first pc had six mo. now older model i'll just start where i think it began.Took pc to room hooked modem to cable as before this time modem no func.while checking connection brushed power cord pc closed than opened without curser arrow after couples hours in [help] said start[ me setup] did so curser came back but system looked like in safe mode only primary colors what was a detailed mountain veiw now grey and blue dots [message windows grey ]player jet black can't see controls saw some suggestions from this site tried degauss,tried display but would'nt reset to new setting ran chess progam would not open need 16bit color never saw that box before but in display color remained 16,400x600 so im lost did all in help now in need of help another prob. before this don't know if related system take days to scandisk/defrag and when i start writing this had to wait a sec. for the letters to follow now back to normal i don't know has my system had it? ibm,ruicaish,mod#686285u,400mhz windows 95 upgraded window 98me well im swaying gotta lay down hopefully when i come back there will be some direction i thank u in advance knowing the depth of knowledge out there.bro.lynn
