Resolved Question

Video Died!!!

Oct 8, 2012 12:25AM PDT

It happened as simple as this: I powered down my PC to rearrange some power cables at the nearest wall socket. I plugged everything back in, powered up and NOTHING. The PC starts up as usual, but absolutely no video. I unplugged and re-seated my video card. Nothing. I bought a new card and nothing. I even changed the PSU. I upgraded it from 500 watts to 600. Nothing. Can someone suggest something I'm leaving out?

Answer
So the PC doesn't start at all....or just no video ?

If no start at all.... sure the circuit is giving power ?

Does the PSU have a switch ?

Is there another slot to try the video card in ?

Thanks for the quick response.

How do check to see if the circuit is giving power?

Regarding the PSU, what type of switch? Watts? Other than Voltage and on/off?

I did try the other pci-e slot. Nothing there either.

Tks again.

Does the PC come on at all ??? Is the monitor plugged in

and turned on ?

You could plug a lamp into wall socket to make sure the circuit is giving power.

More detail is needed here.

No video
Oct 9, 2012 8:10PM PDT

Oh yeah. Full power. The PC goes through its motions and runs as if there were no problem. Just no video signal to a monitor. The monitor actually scans for a signal and cant find one. I even took the whole unit to my job, plugged it in using vga and dvi, neg results. I'm thinking of maybe doing a rebuild on it and going through each piece of hardware to make sure it's properly seated. But as I said initially, the problem started when I powered down to flip out a power strip. Upon powering back up, nothing.

The monitor is currently being used with my MacMini.

Bummer....sound like the MB's gone....

you tried new PSU, different video cards in different slots, monitor works but still no video.

Does the video card require direct power from the PSU ?

Video card
Oct 11, 2012 12:45AM PDT

My original card does require power of the PSU. The one that I bought to see if replacing the video card would work did not require PSU power. Nothing. I've been avoiding the thought of my MB going out on me.

I was on the doorstep of buying a new MOBO when a little light came on: play with the RAM?
I had two 2GB sticks in my mobo. I pulled one out and slid the remaining one into the appropriate slot. Cranked it up and....................... I sending this message from my problem unit. At least I have a new power supply to show for. Now I have to go get some more RAM. No Prob!!

Thanks for the advice. Always appreciated.
