Resolved Question

Video Converters

Jan 18, 2012 11:14AM PST

I have been having trouble finding a video converter program that will let me change formats to AVI with DIvX codec. I have tried all of the free converters and none seem to work with DivX or AVI. I do not mind to pay for a program as long as I am sure it works with both of these. The is to convert TO AVI not FROM AVI

Big problem?

Since AVI is a CONTAINER and not a format or encoding, we may have to discuss that as well.

Are you conversant or know about containers versus encoding?

Am learning on the subject. Had perian but it did not seem to enable the DixV Codec for MPEG streamslip. Downloading the Codec directly from DixV and it worked. Interesting that none of the other programs worked with conversion to that combination.

Was at an "Apple" retail store/questions answered. Tech/sales person put me onto VLC.
Now I can convert, not too sure this will help, as a novice I believe VLC solved my problems.

Google "VLC" to get the 'free' app. Hope this helps, or bypass using DivX codec to convert to AVI instead using VLC which then serves the end results.
