Can anyone tell me what the best method and best hardware is for converting VHS to an MPEG, MPEG2, or some other PC useable video clip format would be?

I solved that problem by purchasing an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9800 Pro video card with composite video in/out, L/R audio in/out, S-video in/out, 125 channel (analog) TV tuner. It allows me to rip non-copy protected VHS tapes to my computer in whatever resolution I choose. But as soon as I start to play a copy-protected tape in the VCR the record button goes grey thereby making a recording impossible. But I have many tapes that are not protected and will end up on DVD someday. BTW, I purchased said graphics card online and saved 50% over retail.
