Even the good will be better than your 3870.

I've made the decision to install Windows 8 on a custom built desktop. I have recently purchased Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD that it'll go on. This desktop will be in a dual-boot situation with Win 7 (currently installed). Right now on the machine, I have an MSI 3870 card installed. It has 512MB GDDR4 memory. I was thinking of upgrading the card to something of comparable performance (my current card doesn't have a native HDMI slot), but I'm not sure nowadays what might might be considered "comparable" to a card that is likely 4 or maybe 5 generations old. Are there any recommendations on a ATI or Nvidia card that would provide comparable performance (and a native HDMI port) to the 3870?
The rest of my machine is as follows:
Intel DX58SO motherboard
Intel i7 920 CPU
12 GB RAM
Samung 470 SSD (256GB) - Windows 7 boot drive
Thermaltake 700W PSU
