Video Card shot? Red Hue in the screen

Aug 13, 2004 10:10AM PDT

I have this red hue on my screen. Everything is red. There is no blue or green anywhere on the screen, only different shades of red. I don't think it is some kind of virus because I have done numerous scans with the latest McAfee updates and nothing turned up. Another reason why I dont think it is a virus is because even this bios screen has a red hue to it, and nothing is loaded at that point. I don't beleive it is the monitor either. When the computer is turned off, the monitor goes into a self-test mode, displaying a red, green, and blue bar perfectly. Also the adjusting settings are not all red. And when I try to deguass, I can see a rainbow of colors, but it reverts to the red hud after the click noise. So that leaves only a few possibilities. I'd say its the video card, but I've never heard of video cards doing this. I guess it could be the monitor cable, maybe? doubtful. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Austin Robertson

This is where you test the monitor on another machine.

it could just be a simple case of overheating take off the side panel to your comp and then switch it on and see what happens if its ok then your video card is overheating. if not then try a different monitor.
